Fearnsport launches unique ceramic-to-steel brake conversion for 996 Turbo S

Fearnsport, the Silverstone based Porsche independent, have created a steel brake conversion package for the Porsche 996 Turbo S – a car that had previously only been able to run OEM ceramic discs due to its unique brake bell offset.

Matt Counsell, Technical Director at Fearnsport, explained:

“The 996 Turbo S runs different uprights to the standard Turbo, due to the 6 pot calipers, and different uprights to GT2s and GT3s due to its four wheel drive system. This means that the brake bells are unique to the car and most aftermarket brake manufacturers cannot supply something suitable. Owners have been forced to refit ceramics, at great cost.

“Our brake disc package for the Turbo S is made up of fully floating Performance Friction discs, attached to bespoke anodised bells via the Performance Friction Direct Drive bobbin set. Despite a relatively high initial cost of £695 plus VAT for the disc and bell assembly, replacement 350mm Performance Friction rotors cost under £200 plus VAT when they have worn out. And the cost is far below that of a ceramic replacement disc, in any case.”

The Fearnsport Turbo S steel brake conversion is available to order today, with pricing as follows:

-          Steel Performance Friction front brake disc assembly: £695 plus VAT (£1350 plus VAT for the pair)

-          Complete steel brake conversion, including front Performance Friction floating discs and pads, and rear Porsche discs with Performance Friction pads: £1995 plus VAT (excluding fitting)

-          Complete steel brake conversion, as above, including fitting, Goodridge braided hoses and Castrol SRF racing brake fluid fill/bleed: £2495 plus VAT

Throughout August and September, we're offering a track set and interim service for any 911 model for just £495 plus VAT. Whether checking that the car is still correctly aligned after hitting a pot hole on our beautifully surfaced roads, or wanting a slightly more aggressive set-up for an upcoming trackday, there's a good reason to book your car in. Especially as we'll refresh the oil with Mobil 1 15W50 Motorsport or 0W40, depending on the car. Always a sensible thing to do, even between services, as heavily tracked cars love oil changes well before the 12k interval.

Carrera GT steel brake package developed - exclusive to Fearnsport

After some enquiries by customers with Carrera GTs who wanted a more practical (and cost effective) alternative to carbon ceramic PCCB brake discs on their car, we have developed a steel brake disc package in conjunction with our Brembo agent (thanks for all your hard work, Steve).

Customers report improved feel with these discs over ceramics, and there are no delamination worries, so they can be worked hard on track.

The 380mm brake floating discs are mounted on bespoke bells with anti-rattle clips, working with a Pagid RS29 pad. Orders are now being taken for the second batch of discs/bells. A set of four brake discs with all required fixings costs £3495 plus VAT, or £3995 plus VAT including the Pagid yellow brake pads. This means a set costs about the same as a single 380mm PCCB disc.

Fearnsport become a reseller for KW suspension

We love KW variant 3 suspension, as it combines unsurpassable performance for the price with great looks (thanks to nice stainless canisters that don’t corrode after a year of UK road use) and enough adjustability for serious track work.

Therefore, we made sure to become a reseller for KW as soon as we could. Variant 3 kits are available for most Porsche models, with kits for the Turbo, GT2, GT3 and GT3RS coming in at £1650 plus VAT (£1938.75 inc VAT). Available fitted at extra cost with a Fearnsport set up, or mail order.

For more information, visit http://www.kw-suspension.co.uk/ for further technical information, or call us on 01327 856993 to place your order.

Fearnsport opens for business

The New Year sees a new Porsche tuning and servicing centre open in Northamptonshire, specialising in RS, GT-series and Turbo models.

Fearnsport, based at Silverstone, ‘the home of British motorsport’, aims to offer Porsche owners the finest road car, track car and race car preparation in the UK.

Andy Fearns, Managing Director and founder, clarified his aims: “Independent specialists can spread themselves quite thin, servicing all makes and years of Porsche. In fact, they’re anything but ‘specialist’. Our aim is to focus on the performance-oriented Porsche models, and concentrate all our expertise, facilities and enthusiasm into this area.

“We will also be running racing Porsches for our customers in various championships, and look forward to the 2007 racing season.”

Andy has previously been a partner at Weltmeister, a senior technician at AmD, BS Motorsport and Autofarm, and started his career at a Mercedes AMG dealership.
